The first of September brings us a new month, a fresh outlook on new strength programming and it also brings us a brand new No Mercy CrossFit Athlete of the Month. I have the honor of choosing who the recipient will be this month and I always look forward to announcing whom that will be. As a trainer and owner of a crossfit box it does your heart good to see somebody push themselves everyday. It is beyond rewarding to see someone welcome a new challenge, develop a new skill, and accept CrossFit as a lifestyle. That is why we do this as trainers.
All month long I have had two names in my mind whom I was considering and they did not disappoint. I simply can't choose between the two so I am naming Tara Hewitt and Tammy Iddings as this month's winners. They both have impressed me beyond words so I feel it would be unfair to choose between the two.
First let me tell you about Tara. Sometimes you meet people in your life that are completely polar opposites of yourself and you just like them right away. That is Tara to me. She is so quiet and unassuming yet tough as nails when the clock starts. I am not sure we have had an athlete that has improved as quickly and drastically as Tara. When she first strolled in our doors a few months back she could barely lift a bar, and now she is doing complex bar movements with weight like she has been doing them for years. I don't know Tara all that well personally but there is a special athlete dying to make her presence known. Holly and I were talking the other day about how impressive she has become as a competitor and cant wait to see what the future holds for her. I am damn proud of her progress and overwhelmed that she chooses to train at NMCF. The sky is the limit as to how good she could be. So Congratulations Tara.
Tammy Iddings is somebody that I have known since I was a teen. She happens to have worked for my company for a long long time. Tammy is somebody who's work ethic is second to none. Whenever I need something done at work I know who to turn to. She was a valuable asset to my father and she is a huge help to me. Tammy comes from an athletic background and is a gifted athlete. When we opened No Mercy I knew Tammy would be great at it from the start. It took a while to get her in the doors but when we did she took to CrossFit movements like a fish takes to water. She is a natural with barbell lifts and her gymnastics is starting to take shape as well. She always challenges herself to do the wods as rx'ed and never questions why! With an amazing personality, unyielding competitive desire, and a shit ton of athletic ability, Tammy is a rare athlete that doesn't just walk through your doors everyday. I asked Tammy to sign up for her first individual comp this coming October because I am excited to see how she can do against women her age. She did not question me for a second!!! She just signed up and that is amazing. Tammy can be as great as she wants to be. The CrossFit Masters Games are not out of the realm of possibility if she chooses to dedicate the time. I have no doubt that her competitive desire will get her there if she so chooses. We are lucky to have Tammy at No Mercy.
Congratulations TARA and TAMMY you guys deserve it!!!! For all your hard work choose something from www.crossfit.com to wear and Holly and I will pick up the tab
